The 2014 Hermit possesses a dark garnet color that is saturated from the center to the rim. When first poured into the glass powerful aromas of dark bing cherries, Asian spices, cassis, iris, hawthorn, minerals, and clean earth are quick to emerge. As the wine settles down the nose gains depth and complexity with aromas of blueberries, cinnamon, cedar, gunflint, dried herbs and game. On the attack the wine is immediately expansive with powerful flavors of cherry, spice and minerals. Even on the attack the wine displays the power, concentration and beautiful ripe tannins of the 2014 vintage. The mid-palate is broad and intense with balancing acidity and stunning focus. Succulent, spicy and dark the wine moves from the mid-palate into an extremely long finish that goes on and on. Although the 2014 Hermit will drink well now it posses the power, structure and balance to age gracefully for another 15 - 20 years.
